Overview

TotK PC Recomp enables native performance for *Tears of the Kingdom* on Windows by using static recompilation rather than emulation. The project maintained by `valentderah` converts the Switch binary into native x86-64 code and utilizes a Vulkan renderer, removing the translation overhead typical of emulators. Version 0.1.1 was released on October 29, 2026, and runs at 60 fps by default, with additional performance tuning options available for compatible hardware.

Frame Rate and Display Settings

The recompilation provides granular control over frame rates and resolution scaling through an in-game menu. Press **F1** to open the settings interface while running the game. A performance overlay can be toggled with **F10** to monitor real-time metrics.

* **Frame Rate Targets:** The build locks to 60 fps by default, matching the enhanced performance profile players expect on PC. An experimental option allows frame rates up to 144 fps; this feature is flagged as experimental, so players should test stability carefully before enabling it for extended sessions. * **Resolution Scaling:** Custom resolutions are supported, allowing the game to match your monitor's native aspect ratio and pixel density. * **Upscaling and Supersampling:** The project includes AMD FSR 1 upscaling to improve performance on lower-end hardware by rendering at a lower resolution and reconstructing the image. Conversely, supersampling is available for high-end systems to render above native resolution, reducing aliasing and sharpening image quality.

Installation and Game File Requirements

TotK Recomp does not distribute game assets. The project requires users to provide their own legally obtained copy of *Tears of the Kingdom*. The recompilation is built against specific versions of the game data.

* **Required Files:** The project ships no game files. It expects your own legally obtained copy of the base game plus either the 1.2.1 or 1.4.3 update; this guide does not cover obtaining or extracting game files. * **Distribution Policy:** The project explicitly asks users not to share the recompilation binary. This is a community-developed tool intended for personal use with legally owned game data.

Input and Controller Configuration

The build supports both keyboard and mouse and gamepads out of the box. Input handling is designed to replicate the Switch experience while offering PC flexibility.

* **Remapping:** Full input remapping is available, allowing players to customize controls for keyboard setups or rebind gamepad buttons to personal preference. * **Haptics and Motion:** Gamepad rumble is supported. Gyro aiming is also implemented, enabling motion-based camera control for precision targeting if your controller supports the feature. * **Planned Features:** Ultrawide aspect ratio support and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) are listed as planned features. These are not available in the current 0.1.1 release but are on the development roadmap.

Beta Status and Stability

Version 0.1.1 is the first public release and is labelled as beta. While the static recompilation approach delivers native performance, the build is still in early development.

* **Expected Issues:** Crashes and visual bugs are expected at this stage. Players should back up save data regularly and report issues to the project repository to assist development. * **Performance Variance:** As a native Vulkan application, performance depends on your GPU and driver configuration. The 60 fps default is achievable on a wide range of modern hardware, but users with integrated graphics or older discrete GPUs may need to utilize FSR 1 upscaling to maintain stable frame rates.

The `akari-sora` repository is also described as a static recompilation of *Tears of the Kingdom*. This appears to be a separate project from the `valentderah` Windows build. Players should verify the target platform and feature set of any alternative repository before using it, as development goals may differ.

Quick Performance Checklist

Reference points:

  • Confirm your PC meets the baseline first: Windows 10 or newer, an AVX2 CPU, a Vulkan 1.3 GPU with VK_EXT_external_memory_host and 4 GB of VRAM, and 16 GB of RAM.
  • Leave the default 60 fps cap in place until the game runs stably on your system.
  • Treat the 144 fps option as experimental and test it in short sessions.
  • If performance dips, lower the custom resolution or use AMD FSR 1 instead of supersampling.
  • Keep the F10 overlay open while tuning so you can see the effect of each change.
